A case of a 26-Year-old Korean male having primary retroperitoneal neurilemmoma, which was pathologically benign and well encapsulated, was presented in detail. The benign, encapsulated neurilemmoma or schwannoma is associated frequently with Von Recklinghausen¢¥s disease in 18% of patients. Tumors arising from the nerve sheath that may occur in the retroperitoneal area are the neurofibroma, neurilemmomas and malignant varient of the neurilemmomas,
Probably best designated as the malignant schwannoma. Neurilemmomas are not often found in the retroperitoneal region. The malignant schwannoma is rare in the retroperitoneal space. Such deep lying malignant tumors may be accompanied by manifestations of Von Reckling hausen¢¥s disease. Malignant Neurilemmomas(10 to 15%) are encountered in patients with Von Recklinghausen¢¥s diseease. The malignat tumors were observed more frequently in the deeper nerve trunks. Available literatures were reviewed with a discussion regarding the pathogenesis, incidence, clinical symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
